Two years ago in November, Diego Maradona died. At the time, ballesterer #157 had just been produced and our favorite soccer magazine promised readers that it would find the time and space for an appropriate tribute to Maradona. This promise is now being kept: with the second issue of ballesterer bibliothek.

Diego Maradona's biography is highlighted in six chapters. The first three are dedicated to the places where he celebrated his greatest successes. The walk through Buenos Aires leads from the clay pitches in Villa Fiorito to the junior players of Argentinos Juniors and the Bombonera of Boca. In Naples, the ballesterer has seen shepherd figures, shrines and soccer fields, and looked for secular reasons for the almost religious veneration. For the chapter on the Argentine national team, the 1986 World Cup and Maradona's two goals against England were dissected.

And ballesterer also writes about Maradona as a public figure: his contradictions, his commitment to the global south, his assaults and his relationship with the media. The last chapter is dedicated to his role as a pop cultural icon: Maradona literature is read, Maradona songs are sung, Maradona movies are watched and Maradona murals are searched for.

The magazine is also this year only one part of the ballesterer library, the others can be found on the internet. On the website, which ballesterer is gradually filling, you will find additional content such as photo series, graphics, playlists and an episode of the ballesterer podcast.

Watching Maradona movies - the ballesterer liked that so much that they want to do it again together. On December 17, the magazine invites you to the long Diego film day at the VHS Brigittenau from 11 am to midnight. Films will be shown and explained, there will be discussions, chats and a celebration of the end of the ballesterer year. Numerous appearances at any time are expressly desired!
