SGS Meeting in Cologne
With the German Sport University Cologne (GSU), one of the top sport universities in Europe was host of the first SGS meeting.
From August 25 to 26, the partners from Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria met in person for the first time. In intense meetings, the focus, apart from administrative matters, was mainly on two main points.
First, the survey for the scientific study on the social structures in European grassroot sports that impact the situation of female and LGBTI+ athletes in Europe was revised. Coordinator of this working point is the GSU. For this purpose, three external experts in the field were consulted. Rens Cremers (Mulier Institute, Netherlands), Birgit Palkzill and Heidi Scheffel (Landessportbund Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) were able to contribute their years of experience within the framework of a symposium. After the results will be incorporated within the next weeks and a strategy for the dissemination of the survey has been worked out, the survey will probably start in October.
The second focus was on a review of the results to date of the collection of best practices in the field of transgender in sport. After a presentation by coordinator Diversport (Spain), next steps were decided to finalize this Working Point soon.
In addition, the partner Landessportbund Nordrhein-Westfalen presented the first draft concepts for the national working groups in the field of sexual and gender diversity in sport.
Apart from the intensive meetings, there was still some time for sports. A joint dinner in a beach bar next to the GSU campus invited to a fun game of beach volleyball during sunset.
After this meeting all partners are well prepared to tackle the next tasks and to move the project forward!
