Ballesterer #167 - Brian Clough
ballesterer #167 is dedicated to the greatest coach of small clubs: Brian Clough. He won titles with Derby County and Nottingham Forest, built up players and fell out with presidents. And was a socialist. "I wouldn't say I was the best coach. But I was in the top one." - Modesty, at least, was not his strong suit. He became champion and European Cup winner, turned underdogs into winning teams, blew presidents' minds, wrapped the media around his little finger, fell out with his best friend and drank more than was good for him. In Derby and Nottingham they have built statues to him, from the ballesterer he gets a focus.
In addition to this story of a special coach, you'll read a long interview with fruit grower Jakob Jantscher, travel with us to the Dublin derby, learn more about Salzburg Austria's stadium plans, and explore the state of club democracy in German soccer.
Also in the current issue, you'll find a background report from our divisional director Kurt Wachter on the Africa Cup in Cameroon. In it, he goes into more detail about the relationship with FIFA and talks about the lack of respect and double standards in the run-up to the Cup:
"Recently, FIFA has been pleasing itself in the role of fighter for underprivileged African soccer and against the dominance of all soccer elites."
Excerpts from the issue can be found here.
