Football today in the post-Yugoslav republics is essentially characterised by three problems: corruption, crime, emigration. The number of spectators is declining, the associations and clubs are entangled in the corrupt structures in the governments, many fans are no longer interested in football, the politicians in turn are afraid of the fans, of the political influence of the curves and their leaders, who at the same time dominate the drug and club scene in many regions. A problem that is now perceived worldwide is the nationalism displayed in connection with football.
And yet the texts and interviews collected in this book, supplemented by a number of groundhopping photographs, show the delicate strengthening of demands for tolerance and diversity, carried by a young generation of football fans whose ideal is freedom - and who see their future in Europe.
The Serbian writer Marko Dinić, who lives in Austria, will analyse the book's findings in conversation with Anne Hahn and Frank Willmann.
