fairplay, the initiative for diversity and anti-discrimination at the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC), has been working for a diverse and discrimination-free sport since 1997. Together with associations, clubs, fan clubs, migrant and youth organizations, measures against discrimination, for diversity as well as sustainable development & human rights in sports are developed and implemented.
The fairplay team is looking for a staff member to establish a contact point for the prevention of political and religious extremism, such as right-wing extremism or Islamism, in Austrian sports from April 1, 2022. The position is initially limited until September 2024. The aim of the project is to counteract extremism in the long term and to remove the breeding ground for it - through education and awareness-raising, educational programs and the reduction of discrimination and the visualization of extreme devaluation ideologies in Austrian sport, as well as by increasing the resilience of sports clubs and athletes.
Task area
- Establishment of a new contact point for the prevention of political and religious extremism in Austrian sports
- Networking and knowledge exchange with relevant stakeholders and potential partner organizations, especially networking with migrant communities and clubs (including Turkish, Kurdish, Afghan and Chechen initiatives and groups)
- Development of educational and awareness-raising measures with various actors (including sports organizations, migrant organizations, youth initiatives and NGOs)
- Realization of workshops, trainings and advanced trainings for multipliers (trainers, sports officials, social and youth workers) and young people.
- Collaboration in the preparation of a qualitative needs analysis and identification of best practices in sports.
- Cooperation in public communication and information work (writing texts for website, newsletter, production of brochures)
- Event organization, organization and handling of round tables and events
We expect
- Expertise in the areas of extremism prevention, deradicalization, anti-right-wing extremism and/or countering Islamism
- Good knowledge of the intervention field of sports and the Austrian sports structures (cooperation with sports associations and clubs is an advantage)
- Experience in mediation and education work
- Experience with project work (reporting,...)
- Enthusiasm for promoting an inclusive and open sports and club culture without discrimination as a basis for combating extremism, radicalization and violence
- High affinity for the topics of sports, diversity, anti-discrimination and fan cultures
- Good knowledge of German and English (languages such as Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, Kurdish, Chechen or BKS an advantage)
- Structured and independent work, ability to work in a team, ability to work under pressure (occasional weekend work and travel)
- Good computer skills
