On the occasion of the SCREENSHOT football film festival taking place from 5.-9.9.24, Club 2x11 is dedicating this time to questions about film, football and the festival.
The football film genre had a bad reputation among cineastes and filmmakers. It took decades for football to arrive in film - mainly in documentaries, but also in arthouse films and finally in the mainstream. As a result, football film festivals developed around the world as a sub-genre of sports film festivals, including the CineFoot - International Football Film Festival Rio de Janeiro (since 2011), GOAL - China Football Film Festival (since 2016), the Football Light Games St. Gallen (also since 2016) and, of course, the world's oldest football film festival, the 11mm Football Film Festival in Berlin (since 2004).
A football film festival has not yet been able to establish itself in Vienna or throughout Austria. SCREENSHOT is intended to be a first step in this direction and aims to critically examine the social and political impact of football alongside the enthusiasm for film and football.
Over four days at the beginning of September, the SCREENSHOT open-air football film festival presents selected documentaries, feature films and short films as well as exciting discussion guests on all relevant and less relevant aspects of film and football.
Panel discussion with:
Jan Tilman Schwab, author & editor of Football Film Lexicon
Andreas Kous, director SCREENSHOT
Karin Berghammer, director of “Diamante”
Daniel Hadenius-Ebner, festival director “Vienna Shorts”
Moderation: Michael Schmied, fairplay prevention
Club 2×11 is an event organized by Büchereien Wien, fairplay Initiative, Wir Frauen im Sport and ballesterer.
