Club 2x11 – Tournament of Conflicts - How to deal with the World Cup in Qatar?, 3.11.22
On 20 November, one of the most controversial major sporting events in history will kick off at the Al-Bayt Stadium in Al-Chaur: The World Cup in Qatar has been under immense criticism since it was awarded in 2010. The list of accusations is long: corruption, oppression of women and queer people, deplorable working conditions on the construction sites, lack of freedom of the press and fully air-conditioned stadiums in the desert. One thing is clear: the award was a mistake, and FIFA must make fundamental changes to prevent a repetition.
But what does that mean for football fans? How can and do they want to behave during the World Cup weeks? Watch the World Cup anyway or turn off the TV? Ignore everything or try to form their own critical opinion in the flood of information?
Club 2×11 discusses options for action and asks what responsibility and what possibilities individual fans and fan groups have. How can they deal with their criticism of the hosting in Qatar and their desire to watch football matches?
