New date: Band Football Cup, 22.9.24

Star-studded line-up at the charity tournament for violence prevention and female empowerment.

Once a year, at the BAND FOOTBALL CUP on 22 September (new date after postponement due to weather conditions), the who's who of the Austrian music scene swap their instruments for jerseys and football boots and kick for a good cause and a trophy made from an old Hans Krankl trainers. The net proceeds from the event will go to the Vienna Women's Shelters Association and White Ribbon. Tickets are available for 20 euros at www.bandfussballcup.at.

The BAND FOOTBALL CUP 2024 (BFC) is not just a fun tournament, but a unique event that combines the diversity of the Austrian music scene with social commitment, violence prevention and female empowerment. Initiator Roman Gregory: ‘When I say that the Band Football Cup has become a lot broader this year, I'm not necessarily alluding to the physical characteristics of the initiator, but proudly pointing to an unprecedented, diverse field of participants that spans almost all genres of the Austrian music landscape. Pop, punk, hip-hop, metal or classical music - this year's teams could not be more diverse. We've even gone one step further in terms of the purpose of the donations this time and, in addition to the Viennese women's shelters, which are thankfully there when something terrible happens, we're also supporting White Ribbon's campaign against male violence this time, which is already intervening before anything bad happens. I wish both institutions didn't need to be there, but the increasingly alarming numbers of violent offences against women unfortunately confirm their urgency. So we are glad that, together with our artists, partners and visitors, we can make a small contribution to making our world a little fairer with this hearty afternoon kick.’

The following musicians and bands have confirmed their participation in the BFC: Thorsteinn Einarsson, Rian, Leo Aberer, Billie Steirisch, Yasmo, 5Achterl in Ehrn, Wiener Symphoniker, SBÄM, Georgij Makazaria, Glue Crew, Karaoke Bash, Mudfight, Mortal Strike, Dystrust, Ravenous, Tulsadoom, Titan Killer, Enclave, Dystrust, ESRAP, neesha, average, Kitana, Radikal Rahel, Onkel Ossi, der kuseng, Zug nach Wien, Orange Skies, Sebi, Fannii, Glazed Curtains, Cil City, Gnackwatschn, OMGHZ, Onklou, Granada, Vulvarine, Metternich, Sternenstaub, Buntspecht, Chris Steger.

The event will be moderated by Birgit Denk, Reinhard Nowak and Aida Loos. Elisabeth Auer, Andi Ogris and Herbert Prohaska will act as referees.

The chairman of White Ribbon Austria, Romeo Bissuti: ‘The band football cup is an excellent opportunity for White Ribbon to sensitise men to violence against women and to encourage them to become part of the solution to this problem. The donations enable us to organise violence-prevention training courses and workshops with young people to teach values such as non-violent images of masculinity and gender democracy.’

The BFC is supported by main sponsor Druck.at, Radio Rock Antenne Österreich, Stadt Wien Marketing, Brajlovic Austria, Ottakringer Brauerei, Yamaha, AK, SWV and Baumit.
