SGS presents logo and partners

The new Erasmus+ project "Sport for all Genders and Sexualities" is moving forward!

This week the official logo of the EU project Sport for all Genders & Sexualities was published! This is a great opportunity to present the team of project partners.

After all partners agreed on a draft at the last meeting, the commissioned graphic designer was able to complete the logo. The simple and straightforward design is broken by an implied LGBTQ flag and thus reflects the mission of the project. The aim is to break down outdated structures and bring grassroots sport into the 21st century.

On this occasion, we would like to briefly introduce our partners:

VIDC / Fairplay - Coordinator

The fairplay initiative for diversity and anti-discrimination was founded in 1997 and is based at the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC). Since then, it is active for diversity and against discrimination in sports. Racism, sexism, homophobia and right-wing extremism are still relevant topics in sports. Through education, campaigns, networking, consulting of clubs and empowerment activities, fairplay tackles exclusion and inequality in elite and grassroots sports and engages for a sport culture open to all.

German Sport University - Partner

The German Sport University Cologne (GSU) is Germany's only and Europe’s largest sport university that offers a wide range of BA, MA and PhD programmes for over 6,000 students. There are 19 academic institutes covering natural sciences, medicine and social sciences. Project partner of SGS is the Institute of Sociology and Gender studies with the research team Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ilse Hartmann-Tews, Dr. Birgit Braumüller and Tim Schlunski. Their task is to generate knowledge about the gendered social structures and cultures in organised sport that trigger in- and exclusion of LGBTIQ athletes in organised sport. Apart from that, the research team will support further work packages with their expertise in the field of gender and diversity topics.

European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation - Partner

The European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) is a Europe-wide membership organisation which exists to combat structural discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics, in the field of sport, and for human rights. It supports the open and active participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (including non-binary), intersex, queer and other diverse identifying people (LGBTIQ+) within sport. In addition, the organisation license the EuroGames, Europe's largest inclusive annual multi-sport tournament for LGBTIQ+ people.

Associazione Italiana Cultura Sport - Partner

Associazione Italiana Cultura Sport, founded in 1962, is a national body of sports promotion based in Italy, counting over one million members all over the country. Through its cultural and sports activities, AICS promotes social cohesion as well as individual and collective health. The AICS LGBTI sector and the Outsport Network are an integral part of AICS's strategy to research, create and promote sport practices that are inclusive for all.

Club Diversport Torremolinos - Partner

Club Diversport, is a non-governmental entity established in Torremolinos (Málaga), whose main objective is the practice and promotion of sports activity, promoting inclusion and participation from diversity and human right perspective. At the same time it is involved in diversity training and education programs which aims are to create safe educational spaces for the entire LGBTQI community. Since its creation, the club has been involved in different projects, among which are: Visible in sport, Your rights and know your rights, a campaign that has been launched in order to raise awareness among citizens about respecting rights, especially those linked to sexual orientation and gender identity. Further recently developed campaigns are Diversity Matters and Breaking the Silence: Let's talk about Mental Health.

Landessportbund Nordrein-Westfalen - Partner

The Landessportbund Nordrhein-Westfalen (LSB NRW), founded in 1947, is the state sport organisation of the organised and community-oriented sport in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). As one of 16 state sports associations in Germany, it belongs to the German Olympic Sports Confederation. The LSB NRW has a total of 126 member organisations in which roundabout 5 million members in 17,700 clubs are active in the sport landscape of NRW. The LSB NRW aims to create access and opportunities for participation for all people of all genders and sexualities and to promote the participation of girls and women in particular. Thus, gender mainstreaming is streamlined throughout the organisation and manifested in the so called “Dekadenstrategie”, a ten year vision for the organised sport in NRW.

Ruth Stevenson - Evaluator
